Imports: understand production needs
Intermediate and capital goods are different statistical categories. For materials, components or equipment, investigate the specific product and code before interpreting the national total as your market.
Exports: investigate supply
Manufacturing exports provide sector context, but a national total cannot establish one company’s capacity. Supplier assessment still requires business identity, product specifications and relevant records.
What needs to be comparable?
Period
Annual, monthly and individual transaction figures are not directly interchangeable. Define a period before measuring change.
Unit
The table uses US$ million. The homepage uses B for US$ billion. Different units do not mean conflicting data.
Granularity
National statistics describe the whole market. A transaction describes a specific operation; the sample cannot be extrapolated to national totals.
Release
Preliminary figures can be revised. Keep the report date and version when citing a number.
